Colony is a story about never being able to tell someone's motivation by how they act. Time and time again, the person who is trusted betrays, while the person who is not trusted, is pushed way. A good page-turner that won't leave you bored.

Colony Ben Bova 9780417041308 Books Reviews
Between Gerard K. O'Neill's The High Frontier and that Matt Damon movie Elysium sits this story. How far from the other it sits seems to be a matter of opinion. In either case, if you saw that movie or read The High Frontier then this will move you closer to one of those... closer to the one you loved or hated? I talked to two other people who had - surprisingly - read this book and each had moved a different way. One person hated the racism of The Colony, but having been out in the world a bit more than him I have to say that I've sadly found that it does exist with militant hatred on every side of the color-skin dice so avoiding it would have make this a children's book.
I now suggest this as the third book to go for after anyone reads The High Frontier (actually reads, by the way, because so many folks seem to "know" The High Frontier by reputation and rumor instead of reading it - I was that way and when I did read it I was knocked out by it not being what I had heard it was) and comes away with the "WOW" in their eyes - O'Neill was making a point, setting up a hopeful but not Utopian reasoning and - mostly - an engineering foundation but he was optimistic about Humanity where The Colony makes the same places and same reasons real with more of the complexity of our current civilizations.
I read it as a used book on a whim because of the cover art... liked it a lot, was mad at it a few times but got over that because rose colored glasses are not a helpful vision tool, and ended up pleased. Exciting story, well done.
I drive a lot so I recently got the Audible audio unabridged version for the car and just finished that this morning... Great reading on that version, good pacing and very well done characters.
Do it.
Can't go wrong with Bova
Another thrilling read, this book had me itching to turn the next page. Less science tech than some of the other Bova books I've read but this had much more storytelling prowess. The characters all linked together to bring about a plot that didn't disappoint. Definitely a great read.
Ben Bova continues to deliver a good story. Excellent!!!
I first read this book over 30 years ago as an idealistic teenager, and this book gave me hope that the human race might someday transcend the social and environmental problems we face. Bravo!
fantastic story
It's a little bit dated -the bane of S/F as the years go by. Even so, it's a fine tale and much of it still holds up.
